Week 0 opens the 2026 college football season with a short but interesting eight-game Saturday schedule on Saturday, August 29. The first kickoff comes from Dublin, Ireland, where North Carolina and TCU meet in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic. The day closes in Las Vegas with Memphis visiting UNLV in one of the more competitive games on the board.

Our college football predictions this week focus on a slate that looks very different from a normal Saturday. Only one AP Top 25 team is playing, No. 14 USC, and several teams are breaking in new quarterbacks, new coaches or heavily rebuilt rosters. That creates more uncertainty than we will see once the season develops.

Week 0 has only eight games, so the college football schedule is more concentrated than a normal Saturday. That makes it easier to focus on the matchups with the most meaningful preseason questions.

NC State also deserves attention as a 5.5-point underdog at Virginia. The Wolfpack have won four straight in the series and have not lost in Charlottesville since 2006. Returning quarterback CJ Bailey gives NC State a proven offensive centerpiece.
