NCAAF Week 9: Expert Predictions & Betting Odds

Week 9 brings two ranked-versus-ranked games, a significant Big Ten road test and several unbeaten teams trying to protect their seasons. No. 22 Arizona visits No. 13 Texas Tech, while No. 17 Florida meets No. 3 Georgia in Atlanta. No. 2 Ohio State travels to USC, and No. 1 Miami heads to North Carolina. For college football predictions this week, picking winners is only part of the challenge. Covering the spread is another matter. No. 20 Northwestern visiting Oregon also shows how team records and power ratings can differ.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL |

Arizona at Texas Tech

Live odds: Moneyline · Spread · Total.

College football picks become especially difficult when top-ranked favorites travel. Ohio State brings ESPN's highest Football Power Index rating to USC, which has a productive passing attack. Miami is undefeated, but North Carolina is getting more than two touchdowns at home.

There are opportunities beyond the headline games, too. Baylor visits UCF in a matchup between 4-3 teams, and undefeated Utah travels to Cincinnati. Both games deserve a closer look before settling on a wager. College football odds can move before kickoff, particularly when new injury information changes expectations. The numbers favor several ranked teams, but not every favorite deserves a wager.

Top College Football Games This Week

Saturday's college football schedule includes two meetings between AP Top 25 teams and several conference games that could change the conversation heading into November. The best college football games are not necessarily the ones with the widest audience. Close lines and sharply different team profiles also deserve attention.

Ranked Matchups

No. 22 Arizona faces No. 13 Texas Tech at noon Eastern on ESPN. Both teams are 6-1, and Texas Tech is favored by 4.5 points. No. 17 Florida meets No. 3 Georgia at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC in Atlanta. Georgia is favored by 10.5, but Florida's 5-2 record suggests it should not be overlooked.

Conference Showdowns

No. 2 Ohio State visits USC at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on NBC. Ohio State arrives at 6-1, while USC is 6-2 and looking to protect its home field. No. 6 Utah's trip to Cincinnati and No. 20 Northwestern's visit to Oregon also bring important conference tests.

Rivalry Games to Watch

No. 5 Notre Dame meets Navy at noon Eastern on ABC in Foxborough. Notre Dame is favored by 29.5 points against a Navy team that is 2-5. No. 25 Wisconsin also renews its rivalry with unranked Iowa at noon Eastern on FOX. The Badgers are getting 2.5 points in a matchup with a total of just 37.5.

College Football Weekly Predictions

College football predictions favor teams with FPI advantages, but Ohio State and Miami have more room to cover than Georgia, Utah or Texas Tech. These college football picks distinguish projected winners from worthwhile wagers.

Game-by-Game Predictions

Ohio State is the pick at USC. Its 28.2 FPI rating leads the country, compared with USC's 12.7. Miami is the pick at North Carolina, backed by a 27.5 FPI rating against the Tar Heels' 7.4. Texas Tech gets the nod against Arizona, although their FPI ratings are separated by only 3.4 points.

Georgia should beat Florida at the neutral site in Atlanta. A projected 14-point margin clears Georgia's 10.5-point spread by 3.5, but Florida's running game makes that edge less convincing. Utah is also the pick at Cincinnati. Its projected eight-point win, however, clears a 6.5-point spread by only 1.5. Georgia, Utah and Texas Tech remain winner predictions, not official spread bets.

Upset Alerts

Baylor is a plausible outright upset at UCF. The Bears have covered both road games and have a higher FPI rating than UCF despite being underdogs. Northwestern could also challenge Oregon. The Wildcats are 4-2 ATS in six games with a spread result, while Oregon has covered only twice in seven contests. Questions about Oregon's quarterback availability add another variable.

Score Predictions

  • Ohio State 34, USC 20.
  • Miami 38, North Carolina 17.
  • Texas Tech 30, Arizona 24.
  • Georgia 34, Florida 20.
  • Utah 31, Cincinnati 23.
  • Baylor 26, UCF 23.

The Baylor-UCF projection has the smallest margin. One late possession could decide whether the Bears pull off the upset.

College Football Betting Odds

The current college football odds show how differently bettors must evaluate outright winners, point spreads and totals. Prices below are a snapshot and can change before kickoff. That matters especially in a week when several ranked teams are asked to win by more than one possession.

Point Spreads

Featured Week 9 point spreads and their prices:

Matchup Favorite
Ohio State at USC Ohio State -7.5
Miami at North Carolina Miami -14.5
Florida vs. Georgia Georgia -10.5
Arizona at Texas Tech Texas Tech -4.5
Utah at Cincinnati Utah -6.5
Minnesota at Indiana Indiana -18.5

Moneyline Odds

Miami is -850 to win outright, compared with North Carolina at +570. Ohio State's -265 moneyline is a steep price for a road favorite, making its spread more appealing for bettors comfortable giving points. Baylor offers +120 at UCF, while UCF is -144. Among the tighter NCAA football odds, Wisconsin is +118 at Iowa and the Hawkeyes are -142.

Over/Under Totals

Ohio State-USC has a total of 50.5, with the over at -108 and under at -112. Georgia-Florida is 55.5, and Arizona-Texas Tech is also 55.5. Wisconsin-Iowa is much lower at 37.5, while Baylor-UCF is 48.5. Those NCAAF odds reflect different scoring expectations. A high or low total does not, by itself, mean there is betting value.

Best College Football Bets This Week

The college football best bets this week begin with two road favorites that have significant statistical advantages. Ohio State and Miami have enough projected margin to justify a spread play, while Baylor offers an underdog moneyline opportunity. These college football betting picks carry different risks. No total has a convincing enough edge to recommend this week.

Best Spread Bets

Ohio State -7.5 at USC is the strongest spread selection. Ohio State averages 39.3 points while allowing 13.4 per game. The Buckeyes are 5-2 ATS, and USC's 2-6 ATS record adds concern for the home side despite its passing production.

Miami -14.5 (-115) at North Carolina is another selection. Miami has won all three road games and covered five of seven overall. North Carolina is 4-3, and the projected 21-point Miami victory clears the spread.

Best Moneyline Picks

Baylor +120 at UCF offers an underdog option rather than paying a steep price for another favorite. Baylor is 5-2 ATS and has the better FPI rating. UCF's strong record at home makes this a riskier choice than either spread selection.

Best Totals Bets

No official totals bet this week. Ohio State-USC over 50.5 (-108) looks tempting because USC averages 36.4 points and gives up 25.1 per game. But Ohio State allows only 13.4 points per game. Our 34-20 projection clears the total by just 3.5 points, with too little room if the Buckeyes limit USC's scoring. Georgia-Florida at 55.5 and Wisconsin-Iowa at 37.5 also lack a clear enough advantage. Passing on the totals market is better than forcing a play.

Games With the Biggest Betting Value

College football betting value is not limited to unbeaten teams or big underdogs. Some favorites have the statistical edge to justify laying points, while others are carrying prices that leave little room for error. The most useful college football betting picks are the ones whose prices make sense for the matchup.

Underdogs Worth Backing

Baylor's +120 moneyline at UCF is attractive because the Bears' FPI rating of 9.1 exceeds the Knights' 6.6. UCF has played well at home, so this is hardly a sure thing, but we do get a lot of value. Northwestern at +3.5 (-118) against Oregon also merits attention. The Wildcats are 6-1, but Oregon has the better FPI rating and home field. Quarterback availability makes this a game to revisit before betting.

Favorite Teams Worth Laying Points

Ohio State -7.5 and Miami -14.5 are the two favorites worth laying points with. Each has a projected winning margin 6.5 points beyond its spread. Utah -6.5 and Texas Tech -4.5 offer much less room: their projected wins clear the lines by only 1.5 points apiece. Cincinnati's unbeaten home record and Arizona's comparable FPI rating add reasons to pass on those two favorites. Texas Tech's 3-4 ATS record is a separate concern.

Trap Games

Indiana's 7-1 record looks commanding next to Minnesota's 5-2 mark, but the Hoosiers have covered just once while Minnesota is 5-2 ATS. Laying 18.5 with Indiana carries obvious risk. Oregon has also struggled against the spread, making its short-favorite status against Northwestern less appealing than the names alone suggest.

Teams Trending Up and Down

The college football rankings show which programs are receiving national respect, but college football teams can be judged differently against the spread. Several NCAA football teams are winning consistently and rewarding bettors. Others have strong straight-up records without regularly covering the number.

Teams on Winning Streaks

No. 1 Miami and No. 6 Utah remain 7-0, while No. 7 UCLA is also unbeaten. The Bruins are a remarkable 7-0 ATS. No. 8 BYU has covered six of seven entering its matchup with Arizona State. These teams have been successful both on the scoreboard and against market expectations.

Teams Losing Momentum

No. 4 Indiana keeps winning but has covered only once in eight games. Oregon is 4-3 overall and has beaten the spread twice. USC enters its Ohio State matchup at 6-2 but is only 2-6 ATS. None of those records guarantees a result next week, but they show why win-loss records alone are insufficient.

Injury Updates

Wisconsin's Darrion Dupree and Malachi Coleman missed the USC game, while Nevada quarterback Carter Jones missed San José State with an arm injury. Oregon receivers Jalen Lott, Evan Stewart and Messiah Hampton are expected to return for Northwestern, but none should be treated as a confirmed participant yet. Oregon quarterback Dante Moore missed the Illinois game with a concussion, and his Week 9 status remains unclear. Confirm these statuses near kickoff.

Players to Watch This Week

The most productive college football players can influence a spread as much as home field or a strong defense. Several NCAA football players enter Week 9 with impressive passing, rushing and receiving numbers. Quarterback efficiency and defensive takeaways may be especially important in the featured games.

Quarterbacks to Watch

Miami's Darian Mensah has thrown for 2,151 yards, 22 touchdowns and one interception while completing 81.4% of his passes. Ohio State's Julian Sayin has 2,007 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, giving the Buckeyes a proven source of offense at USC. Opposing quarterback Jayden Maiava has 2,303 yards and 19 passing touchdowns. Arizona's Noah Fifita brings 2,047 yards and 18 touchdowns into the Texas Tech game.

Impact Playmakers

Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith has 984 yards and 12 touchdowns, giving USC a major coverage problem. Miami's Malachi Toney has 952 yards and 11 scores ahead of the North Carolina matchup. Florida running back Jadan Baugh has 763 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns entering the Georgia rivalry game. His production is one reason Georgia's 10.5-point spread deserves caution.

Defensive Difference-Makers

Texas Tech linebacker John Curry has three interceptions ahead of Arizona's visit. UCLA defensive back Ta'Shawn James has four, giving Nevada another reason to protect possession. Texas linebacker Rasheem Biles also has three interceptions ahead of the Longhorns' home game against Mississippi State. One takeaway by any of these defenders could create a short field and shift the result against the spread.

Factors Behind Our Weekly Picks

College football betting tips should be considered more than rankings. Home field, turnovers and opponent quality help explain results and betting prices. Each deserves attention in college football analysis.

Home-Field Advantage

Texas Tech has yet to lose at home before Arizona arrives. UCF's home record complicates the case for Baylor's moneyline, while Cincinnati's unbeaten home mark matters against Utah. Florida-Georgia is played at a neutral site in Atlanta, so neither side receives the ordinary benefit of playing at its own stadium.

Turnover Matchups

Turnover margin offers context that the final score can hide. Through October 23, Notre Dame carried a +14 turnover margin, UCLA stood at +10 and Northwestern at +7. Northwestern's ability to protect possessions may help against Oregon, although turnovers are difficult to predict from one game to the next. Positive season margins are indicators of performance, not promises of future takeaways.

Strength of Schedule

Records do not tell us how difficult a team's past opponents were. Oregon is 4-3 but carries a 17.0 FPI rating, ahead of 6-1 Northwestern at 13.8. That does not prove Oregon faced a tougher schedule. FPI measures team strength, not strength of schedule. Texas Tech and Arizona are both 6-1, yet their FPI ratings are 16.7 and 13.3. Those comparisons help put the records in context without assigning unsupported schedule rankings.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

The upcoming college football games on November 3-7 could reshape the top of the AP poll. Several programs face difficult assignments immediately after Week 9, and the college football schedule offers little room for favorites to overlook the next opponent.

Early Lines to Watch

Early Week 10 lines make Utah a three-point home favorite against BYU and Ohio State a six-point favorite against Oregon. Those are early reference numbers, not locked-in prices for next Saturday. Results and injury information from October 31 could change the market substantially before kickoff.

Potential Ranked Matchups

No. 1 Miami travels to No. 5 Notre Dame on November 7, currently the standout matchup in next week's schedule. No. 3 Georgia visits No. 12 Ole Miss, while No. 8 BYU goes to No. 6 Utah. No. 10 Alabama at No. 15 LSU and No. 11 Texas at No. 23 Missouri also feature ranked opponents based on the October 25 poll.

Games With Playoff Implications

Miami-Notre Dame is the obvious national headliner, with both programs positioned near the top of the rankings. BYU-Utah brings a significant Big 12 test, while Georgia-Ole Miss could influence the SEC race and the playoff picture. Current rankings may change before these games, so revisit the stakes once Week 9 results are final.
