Premier League Season Preview

One of the biggest factors coming into this Premier League season is fatigue. Many Premier League stars may not be at full strength entering the campaign after the longest World Cup ever. Their only major losses were Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior, so they are seen as the most likely team to finish atop the Premier League standings 2026.

Of the Premier League teams chasing Arsenal, Manchester City are the most prominent. Erling Haaland might be the most talented forward in the world, and he has been the Premier League Golden Boot winner in three of the last four seasons. City spent a lot of money to bring Elliot Anderson over from Nottingham Forest, but they parted ways with Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake. Rodri is reportedly set to move to Barcelona on a transfer too, depriving the Citizens of three long-time stars.

Liverpool were the only club that won the Premier League over the last eight years other than Manchester City before Arsenal’s title last season. The Reds had a pretty disappointing campaign highlighted by the disastrous Alexander Isak transfer, but they have made some shrewd moves over the offseason and appear to be real title contenders once more. Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz can both make an instant impact for the club, while the loss of long-time talisman Mo Salah might be a case of addition by subtraction after how messy the situation got with former manager Arne Slot.

Premier League Title Contenders

Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool are the three favorites to win the Premier League per the current soccer betting odds. Chelsea and Manchester United are seen as real contenders too with odds of 10-1 or less, while every other club has odds of at least 30-1 to win the Premier League.

Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are the next best of the rest. Ipswich Town, Hull City, and Coventry City were promoted from the Championship, while West Ham, Burnley, and Wolverhampton were relegated from the Premier League. Oddsmakers do not like the competitive chances of any of the three newly promoted teams, as the three newly promoted teams are the three favorites to be relegated at the end of the season.

Premier League Games and Opening-Week Matchups

As tradition dictates, defending champions Arsenal will open the Premier League season on Friday against Coventry City. The Gunners are big favorites on the three-way line to start their campaign with three points, and anything less would be a major disappointment. 

Manchester United are heavy favorites against Hull City on Saturday, while Brentford are surprising favorites over Spurs when looking at other interesting Premier League matches that day.

Sunday is probably the best day for Premier League games with three potential bangers. Manchester City starts the Enzo Maresca era at home against AFC Bournemouth, Brighton & Hove Albion host fellow Champions League contenders Aston Villa, and Liverpool head north to face Newcastle United.

After Arsenal clinched the Premier League title, the most interesting race was the relegation battle. Once Nottingham Forest and Leeds United pulled themselves ahead, relegation became a two-horse race between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. Arsenal’s attacking duo of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were instrumental to their Premier League success last season, but Rice and Saka will need their minutes managed early in the season following England’s deep run at the World Cup. 

Bruno Fernandes is coming off a record-setting Premier League season with Manchester United. Fernandes assisted on a record 21 goals, breaking the record previously held by both Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. 

Breakout Premier League Players This Season

There were three £100m players this offseason with all of those being between Premier League clubs. Morgan Rogers is joining Chelsea from Aston Villa, and the Blues are optimistic that Rogers can immediately be a difference maker. Elliot Anderson should be a great fit for a Manchester City club desperately in need of a playmaking midfielder once more, while Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Mateus Fernandes aim to get Spurs out of the cellar.

Rest differential is a big stat to track as we have continually seen smaller clubs with less depth go from European competition to fighting in relegation battles over the course of a single season. All of the cup competitions in concurrence with league play can be a real grind, and teams with less depth have a lot of trouble keeping a high level of performance throughout the season.

Injuries are another key thing to follow over the course of the Premier League season. Many of the top players were unable to rest this summer due to the World Cup, so we figure to see more injuries and knocks than we would in a typical campaign.
