NFL Week 8: Expert Predictions & Betting Analysis
NFL Week 8 offers several difficult choices, including an unbeaten Minnesota team visiting Detroit and Kansas City favored by only one point at Denver. The most useful NFL predictions this week begin with how teams match up, not where they fall in a power ranking.
Betcris Arizona makes Cincinnati the largest favorite at -10.5 against Tennessee, while Jacksonville is -8 against Indianapolis. Those spreads demand more than a prediction of which team will win. Baltimore's trip to Buffalo presents a different problem, with Lamar Jackson's ankle recovery still worth monitoring.
Our NFL picks weigh passing efficiency, defensive performance, injuries, and rest before looking for an advantage at the betting window. Minnesota's defense and the Chargers' offensive-line problems offer two particularly interesting angles. Arizona's visit to Dallas deserves attention, too, with the Cardinals receiving six points against a Cowboys defense that has struggled against the pass.
The NFL betting odds also create choices between taking points and backing an underdog outright. We'll pick every game, identify a smaller group of actual wagers, and use Betcris Arizona prices for our betting recommendations.
NFL Week Preview
Week 8 begins Thursday, October 29, when Carolina visits Green Bay at 8:15 p.m. Eastern. Sunday features eight games at 1 p.m. Eastern, including Arizona at Dallas, then three afternoon contests and Philadelphia at Washington at 8:20 p.m. Chicago visits Seattle Monday at 8:15 p.m. New Orleans, the Giants, San Francisco, and Houston have byes.
Biggest Storylines
Minnesota takes a 6-0 record into Detroit against a Lions offense that has been much more productive through the air. Buffalo hosts Baltimore with Jackson recovering from an ankle injury. The Rams face the Chargers at SoFi Stadium amid injuries on both sides.
Key Divisional Matchups
Seven NFL games this week are within divisions. Minnesota-Detroit, Kansas City-Denver, and Philadelphia-Washington carry obvious stakes. Cleveland visits Pittsburgh, Atlanta plays at Tampa Bay, Indianapolis travels to Jacksonville, and New England faces Miami. Familiarity matters, but it does not guarantee a betting edge.
Games With Playoff Implications
Detroit enters 4-2 and can narrow Minnesota's NFC North lead. Kansas City is 5-1, with Denver 5-2 entering their AFC West meeting. In the AFC South, Jacksonville can strengthen its position against Indianapolis. The NFL schedule also gives Washington a chance to capitalize on Philadelphia's injury problems following a Monday night loss to Dallas. These are the contests driving our NFL Week 8 predictions.
Expert Picks for Every NFL Game
These NFL expert picks combine matchups, injuries, and spreads. Expected points added (EPA) measures a play's effect on expected scoring.
Against the Spread Picks
Minnesota +3 (+103) and the Rams -6.5 (-108) are the strongest ATS positions. Other entries are projected covers against the NFL lines. Cincinnati is picked to beat Tennessee by 10, short of its 10.5-point spread. The Jets are projected to beat Las Vegas 24-21, but without a featured bet.
Straight-Up Winners
Green Bay, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas, Minnesota, the Jets, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, the Rams, Kansas City, New England, Washington, and Seattle are the straight-up selections. Buffalo's forecast depends on Jackson's health. Minnesota is an underdog winner pick.

NFL Line Movement Analysis
Opening spreads and current NFL betting lines show the importance of a half-point. Current prices here are from Betcris Arizona.
Biggest Line Moves
Green Bay opened -4.5 against Carolina and is now -3.5 (-113). The Rams went from -7.5 to -6.5 (-108) against the Chargers, while Washington moved from -4.5 to -5.5 (-108) against Philadelphia. Tampa Bay moved from -1.5 to -2.5 (-113) against Atlanta. Those adjustments matter near common victory margins.
Raiders-Jets rose from 44.5 to 46, while Cleveland-Pittsburgh fell from 39.5 to 38.5. Kansas City eased from -1.5 to -1 (-111). Detroit opened -3.5 and is now -3.
Reverse Line Movement
Reverse line movement occurs when odds move against the side attracting more wagers. A move by itself does not demonstrate that pattern. Kansas City's slight drop at Denver is worth following, but there is no clear reverse-line signal established by these prices. Injuries and betting action can influence prices.
Closing Line Value
Rams -6.5 is better than -7.5. Minnesota +3 (+103) pays a positive return at the key number of three. Closing line value can be judged once markets close. The number and the price must both work. Tracking the eventual closing number also helps evaluate whether an early selection beat the market.
Matchups That Could Decide the Week
The best NFL matchups often hinge on injuries that reshape offensive and defensive strengths.
Quarterback Battles
Buffalo leads at +0.17 offensive EPA per play. Josh Allen faces Baltimore while Lamar Jackson recovers from an ankle injury. Tyler Huntley has started three games in his place. At Denver, Patrick Mahomes meets a defense allowing -0.15 EPA per pass, setting up a tighter contest than Kansas City's record might suggest. Jared Goff has 14 touchdown passes without an interception, but Minnesota has allowed only three passing touchdowns.
Offensive Line vs Pass Rush
The Chargers rank last at -0.24 offensive EPA per play. Rashawn Slater and Trey Pipkins III are on injured reserve, while Joe Alt has an uncertain status. The Rams have an advantage, although injuries to Kobie Turner and Poona Ford complicate it. Jacksonville is without tackle Anton Harrison after an ACL injury. Green Bay's Sean Rhyan is also sidelined, and Carolina is missing tackles Taylor Moton and Ikem Ekwonu.
Secondary Matchups
Seattle has allowed 1,106 passing yards, challenging Caleb Williams. Dallas, by contrast, has allowed +0.23 EPA per pass. Arizona (2-5) visits the Cowboys (3-4) after losing 30-16 at Denver, but Dallas just beat Philadelphia 38-21. Cardinals +6 (+101) has appeal against that pass defense, even if Dallas wins. The pass-coverage contrast matters more than a generic power ranking. Arizona has won four straight against Dallas, but past results guarantee nothing.
Best NFL Betting Opportunities
Our NFL best bets need a matchup advantage that the line has not absorbed. We prefer two spreads and one total, emphasizing defense instead of automatically backing favorites.
Best ATS Picks
Minnesota +3 (+103) at Detroit is the leading spread recommendation. The Vikings allow -0.21 EPA per play, best in the league, and face a Detroit defense allowing +0.11. Minnesota's limited offense makes the points preferable to an outright wager. The Rams -6.5 (-108) are the other spread recommendation against a Chargers attack ranked last in offensive efficiency.
Jacksonville -8 (-108) is a secondary lean but tackle Anton Harrison's absence matters when laying more than a touchdown.
Moneyline Value
Minnesota +163 is a higher-risk alternative to taking the points. Its defense gives the Vikings an upset path, but Detroit can pass effectively. A three-point cushion protects against a narrow Lions win, which is why the spread remains our preferred approach. Kansas City -118 at Denver and the Jets -107 against Las Vegas are passes at those prices.
Totals Worth Playing
Cleveland-Pittsburgh Under 38.5 (+102) is our preferred total. Both defenses rank in the top ten in EPA per play, while both offenses sit near the bottom. The 19-13 score projection leaves room below the line. Short fields and defensive scores remain threats to the Under, but the defensive matchup supports it. There is no need to chase another total this week.
Player Props to Watch
Chicago at Seattle is the focus of our NFL player props, particularly Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Multiple wagers on the same receiver increase exposure to one game script, but you can hit bit if the player comes through.
Passing Props
Betcris Arizona has Williams at 227.5 passing yards, with Over and Under each -114. Seattle ranks second defensively, but Williams threw for 308 yards against New England and 305 against Atlanta. Chicago could also throw more while trailing. No bet on Williams' passing yards. Darnold's 233.5-yard line (-114 each way) is also a pass. Seattle may not need heavy passing volume if its defense controls the game.
Rushing & Receiving Props
Chicago has rushed for 1,080 yards, but Seattle has allowed just 626 rushing yards. Our preferred receiving play is Smith-Njigba Over 99.5 yards (-114). Seattle targets him heavily, and he has repeatedly reached triple digits. He has reached at least 100 yards in six of seven games, including 150 against Kansas City and 134 at Denver. His Over 7.5 receptions (+106) is an alternative, not a second necessary play.
Anytime Touchdown Picks
Smith-Njigba is -110 to score anytime, with eight receiving touchdowns through seven games. He has scored in five of those games. D'Andre Swift is also -110, and Colston Loveland is +230. Smith-Njigba is the preferred anytime touchdown consideration, but receiving yards remain the stronger NFL prop bet.
Injury Report and Betting Impact
Early-week NFL injury reports require care. Practice participation is not a final game designation, and estimated return dates are not guaranteed.
Quarterback Injuries
Baltimore's Lamar Jackson is recovering from a high ankle sprain. Coach Jesse Minter is optimistic about Sunday, but Jackson missed three games with Tyler Huntley starting. Philadelphia is using Tanner McKee after Jalen Hurts went on injured reserve. Washington's Jayden Daniels returned as starter earlier in October. Backup Marcus Mariota is recovering from a knee injury.
Skill Position Updates
Minnesota running back Aaron Jones is day-to-day with a knee problem, and Detroit's Amon-Ra St. Brown recently tweaked his ankle. Philadelphia's Saquon Barkley dealt with back discomfort in Monday's loss to Dallas. Washington will be without Terry McLaurin following a season-ending knee injury. Arizona has James Conner on injured reserve, while Jeremiyah Love is recovering from an ankle issue. Tennessee has questions involving Calvin Ridley and Tyjae Spears.
Defensive Injuries That Matter
Green Bay is without Micah Parsons, with Devonte Wyatt's ankle and Zaire Franklin's leg also worth following. Denver has questions involving Pat Surtain II, Talanoa Hufanga, and Zach Allen. Detroit safety Kerby Joseph remains out. Late-week practice reports could move the NFL betting odds before kickoff.
Situational Angles This Week
Rest and travel can change preparation time, but NFL betting strategy should weigh those factors alongside the matchup and the price.
Short Week Teams
Carolina and Green Bay both return Thursday after playing Sunday, October 25. Green Bay's offensive-line issues and Carolina's missing tackles create concerns with only a few days to adjust. Philadelphia has a six-day turnaround after losing to Dallas on Monday, October 26, before traveling to Washington. That leaves less recovery time than the Commanders have enjoyed. Dallas is also coming off the short week as they face Arizona.
Rest Advantage
Washington comes off a Week 7 bye, one of the week's clearest scheduling advantages. Chicago has extra rest after playing New England on Thursday, October 22, before its Monday night trip to Seattle on November 2. The Seahawks last played Sunday, October 25. That difference helps Chicago prepare for a difficult defense, even though Seattle remains the projected winner.
Travel and Scheduling Spots
Kansas City travels to Denver for a matchup with a Broncos defense ranked among the league's best against the pass. The Chargers face the Rams at SoFi Stadium, so their road designation does not bring ordinary long-distance travel. New England visits Miami, where heat and conditions can matter, but there is no reason to assume a specific weather advantage in advance. These NFL betting angles inform the projections without becoming automatic selections.
Survivor and Confidence Pool Picks
Survivor pools reward winning, regardless of margin. That puts strong moneyline favorites ahead of close divisional games in the week's NFL survivor picks.
Safest Picks
Cincinnati -495 is the first option against Tennessee, even with a 27-17 score projection that does not cover 10.5 points. Jacksonville -406 against Indianapolis comes next. New England -387 at Miami also belongs among the stronger outright choices, though road games carry their own uncertainty. Each is a Betcris Arizona moneyline price.
Upset Avoidance
Avoid treating Minnesota's 6-0 record as security at Detroit, where the Lions are favored by three. Kansas City is only -1 at Denver, and Buffalo's outlook against Baltimore could shift with Jackson's availability. All three belong lower in NFL confidence pool picks. The Jets' one-point edge over Las Vegas also makes that game a poor survivor choice.
High-Confidence Plays
Our survivor order is Cincinnati, Jacksonville, then New England. The Rams deserve consideration as well: they are -273 on the moneyline and projected to beat the Chargers by 14. Their price is shorter than those of the first three favorites, and their own defensive injuries temper confidence. For NFL survivor pool strategy, future matchups matter, but the immediate priority is avoiding an unnecessary upset risk.
